Minimally Invasive Fibroid Treatment
What are Uterine Fibroids?
Fibroid tumors are noncancerous (benign) growths that develop in the muscular wall of the uterus. They don’t always cause symptoms, but their size and location can lead to problems for some women, including pain and heavy bleeding. They typically improve after menopause when estrogen decreases. Advanced Diagnostics Healthcare System offers Uterine Fibroid Embolization (YFE), a minimally invasive fibroid treatment option, for symptoms related to fibroids.
What Are the Symptoms of Uterine Fibroids?
Depending on their size, number and location, fibroids can cause:
- Heavy, prolonged monthly periods
- Pain in the back or legs
- Pelvic pain and pressure
- Bladder pressure and need for frequent urination
- Enlarged abdomen
- Pressure on the bowel and constipation
- Bloating
- Pain during sexual intercourse
How are Uterine Fibroids Treated?
Uterine Fibroid Embolization is a minimally invasive procedure performed with sedation but not general anesthesia. A catheter is inserted into the artery that provides blood flow to the uterus through the groin. Tiny particles injected into the artery cut off the blood supply to the fibroids. The fibroids then shrink over time. Recovery times and complications are lower compared to surgery.
